Beware, stay away from Kumon Learning center
In March 2013. I took my 3rd grade elementary school son to the Kumon learning center at Hamilton West End, in Hamilton, ON to bring him up to grade level in reading and math.
First we were made to wait for about 40 minutes for the Kumon director Nicole Smith who never showed up. The Kumon learning staff gave my son a test in Math and English. We were told that the test was to check for gaps in learning. After the test my son was placed in a Kumon math and reading level that I feel was equivalent to Pre-Kindergarten.
The Kumon director still no where to be found after over an hour and a half at the Kumon learning center. 2 weeks into the Kumon program I expressed concerns to the Kumon learning director Nicole Smith that I did not see any improvement. She was arrogant and defensive. She told me to give it more time.
My son was made to repeat the same Kumon worksheets again and again like we were ***.
By the time I gave it more time my son's report card came and it was worse than before. I immediately called Kumon to cancel. Again, the Kumon center director Nicole Smith was not available and we were told she was traveling. The staff told me I had to give a month's notice.
After a couple of conversations they "allowed" us to cancel. Don't get sucked into the false success of Kumon learning. Being located in Hamilton, Ontario doesn't mean we should be treated badly. I spent my hard earned salary for my own son in Kumon with no success!!
I should be given a full refund based on their deceptive business practices and loop holed printed materials served to us at enrollment. Don't go to Kumon Math & Reading it is a trap and they will make you feel like less of a parent by testing and placing your child many levels below in the Kumon program that has no proof of success in Math or for anyone that English is their first language.

This King George Blvd location is owned by a thief named Shanker. When I questioned him why all of a sudden my fees went up from previous months, he lied and told me I always paid that rate.
I trusted him at first, thinking I was mistaken. I told him months ahead that I would be ending Kumon and asked how much notice he needed. He told me not to worry as I was giving him notice now and he was fine with it. When I left Kumon, I wished them well.
A few weeks later It occurred to me that I paid a first and last month.
I emailed asking if this was the case. He told me I do not pay last month. A few weeks later, it did not sit right so I questioned him again about paying the last month and he then told me because I didnt give notice (which I did) he decided to keep my last month. He lied at first telling me I didnt pay a last month, now telling me he decided to secretly keep it.
I then questioned the rate change on my account that he claims I always paid that rate. I asked for a statement and he has refused to provide it. He has already tried issuing me part of the refund but not all. This is despicable behaviour for a man who spends his time with children.
I think back about the lady in the office that was screaming at Shanker one day because he had been debiting her account for 2 years after her child left Kumon.
My daughter has since told me this often happened where people come in furious with him as he continues to take money out of their accounts.
This isnt over. I will get what is mine and I will make sure everyone knows what a thief Shanker is. I am happy to provide emails and documentation to back this review up.
Stay away from this location and go to any other Kumon. Read the poor reviews for this location.
They have a common theme. There are other locations very close by.
Kumon Canada is a complete waste and does not oversee their franchises. In fact, Kumon Canada told me that even though one of their Kumon has stolen money from my account and I can prove it, they dont care. They were very specific that they only care about the program.
After looking at reviews this company has 380k unresolved disputes in one website alone and they seem to all relate to billing issues.
Unbelievable for a company that deals with children. They should be shut down.
User's recommendation: Choose a reputation company. Not Kumon. They don’t offer anything more than photocopied worksheets.
Bad customer support. Teachers don’t spend more than 5 minutes with kids and again painful for parents to help kid ms and motivate them to complete lessons
User's recommendation: Never go to kumon…waste of money.. there are plenty of websites for practice
Discrimination from the Kumon instructor

Kumon does not teach math. Waste of money and time and unnecessary Stress on your kids
Oh man don't know where to start from, but will try to make it short.
Kumon is just giving your kids the assignment over and over for weeks until your kid is really disgusted of basic Math.
Also, topics will be 2-3 grades below your kids school grade.
Waste of time and money.
Not sure why they even have centers you need to go twice a week for 30 mins each time. Why would you even do that to do 1 + 1 , 3 + 1 , 7 + 3 questions forever.
I think having centers is just to justify the monthly charges. Otherwise, your kids can do the same math at home for free. They are not teaching anything. They just hand out papers and collect to not look at them.
They keep giving you the same papers.
What a joke. I feel sorry for the kids.

Kumon gets a bad review from me which is a negative review
I went to the Kumon on Spring Cypress, and signed up there to help me get prepared to take a math placement test in college. I paid in advance to make sure that I was always able to pay them since I did not have a full-time job, but only worked 6 hours a week one day a week.
Uppel lied to me and told me she called corporate to find out how much she owed me when corporate does not receive our money. She only does for the teachers. Then she lied to me about her customers were not paying her. If they were not, that is not my fault that is her fault for not kicking them out until they paid.
But, I think they did pay her and she is just lying to me about it. Then she lied to me about getting me the refund back which I still have not received. Do not trust Uppel she is a liar and a thief. Because of her, I can never trust her or Kumon again.
She made them look really bad and un-trust worthy. I worked hard to make the money I did, and to go to school, and she abused that trust.
Preferred solution: Full refund
Kumon gets no stars from me
I was going to Kumon to strengthen my math to prep for a math placement test in college. Each Kumon is individually owned, and does not receive our payment.
Only the teachers do. I paid in advance , so that; I would have enough money for them to help me get through this math placement. Uppel decides to shut the facility down, and she told me corporate would not tell her how much she owed me when they do not receive a dime of our money. She lied to me about that.
Then she lied to me about her customers were not paying her. She took advantage of me going to school and only working 1 day a week for 6 hours.
She and Kumon will never be trusted by me again. She is a liar and a thief don't ever higher her anywhere you won't see your money again.
Preferred solution: Full refund

Verified ReviewerSharing my experience with Kumon
This is my personal opinion and review about the Kumon Program. Though my son has attended Kumon program for more than 6 years and completed as well but overall I did not like the program.
It's more on repetitions and does not focus on clearing the concepts due to which kids normally are not equipped with basic knowledge. Even for practice, the online learning sites are much more beneficial. My daughter also joined this program and was doing well but during Covid time due to unavailability of in-person classes, she was struggling to keep up with it (mostly i think its because they don't emphasize on concepts) and were having issues completing her assignments.
They have a kumon plus program for accumulating points for being enrolled in the program and it takes years to have some significant points and that too they have a very rigid and unfair policy and doesn't even consider the circumstances and nullify all the previously accumulated points if you discontinue for any reason. Overall, I wouldn't recommend anyone to enroll to this program and rather look for alternative ways to practice math problems.
- Does not focus on problem solving skills
Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution
User's recommendation: Please invest your money in a better program.

Kumon *** me off I’m literally losing all sanity I’ve got. I’m pretty sure it says “Helps get your kids the highest grades” but they’re so hard I can’t even concentrate.
For those of you who us Kumon you really do not need to spend all your money on a tutor. You can find online worksheets for free for your kids.
There is even worksheets that go by television shows and movies that will keep your kids more interested. For example if your child is interested in Harry Potter there are worksheets about in English, math ect about that. You can basically find something your child is interested in and work on that. K5 learning has lots of activities that you can print out including answer sheets.
You may need to do these activities together with your child. But you can basically get free printable worksheets everywhere for math, spelling, reading, language arts ect.
plezz dont bach Kumon. I tooked english in Kumon an d look at what theyd taut me.It is umpossible that your telling the truth.
Kumon is ***
Kumon em Secaucus New Jersey is Ridiculous. So desrespect with kids! It’s expensive and bad service!
I brought my son to Kumon in Fairfax VA . He is 4-year-old and I was thinking maybe Kumon can help him get ready for preschool and that is what they say .
I found out that they don’t teach anything and I, myself need to teach my son and all he needs to do was repeat it all for his teacher for 6 minutes and done .
It was kind a waist of money and my son hates reading now . I told them to cancel before September , they say they are not gonna refund me September’s tuition fee.
If more kids parents made them take classical guitar lessons that alone would greatly improve their academic performance. Also it would improve their self confidence and critical thinking skills.
Perhaps learning centers like Kumon should consider incorporating music lessons in their facilities. Guitar, piano, cello, bass, violin and organ are essential instruments that should be a requirement for all children to learn to play.
