In March 2013. I took my 3rd grade elementary school son to the Kumon learning center at Hamilton West End, in Hamilton, ON to bring him up to grade level in reading and math.

First we were made to wait for about 40 minutes for the Kumon director Nicole Smith who never showed up. The Kumon learning staff gave my son a test in Math and English. We were told that the test was to check for gaps in learning. After the test my son was placed in a Kumon math and reading level that I feel was equivalent to Pre-Kindergarten.

The Kumon director still no where to be found after over an hour and a half at the Kumon learning center. 2 weeks into the Kumon program I expressed concerns to the Kumon learning director Nicole Smith that I did not see any improvement. She was arrogant and defensive. She told me to give it more time.

My son was made to repeat the same Kumon worksheets again and again like we were ***.

By the time I gave it more time my son's report card came and it was worse than before. I immediately called Kumon to cancel. Again, the Kumon center director Nicole Smith was not available and we were told she was traveling. The staff told me I had to give a month's notice.

After a couple of conversations they "allowed" us to cancel. Don't get sucked into the false success of Kumon learning. Being located in Hamilton, Ontario doesn't mean we should be treated badly. I spent my hard earned salary for my own son in Kumon with no success!!

I should be given a full refund based on their deceptive business practices and loop holed printed materials served to us at enrollment. Don't go to Kumon Math & Reading it is a trap and they will make you feel like less of a parent by testing and placing your child many levels below in the Kumon program that has no proof of success in Math or for anyone that English is their first language.

Monetary Loss: $1700.

Location: Hamilton, Ontario

Kumon *** me off I’m literally losing all sanity I’ve got. I’m pretty sure it says “Helps get your kids the highest grades” but they’re so hard I can’t even concentrate.

For those of you who us Kumon you really do not need to spend all your money on a tutor. You can find online worksheets for free for your kids.

There is even worksheets that go by television shows and movies that will keep your kids more interested. For example if your child is interested in Harry Potter there are worksheets about in English, math ect about that. You can basically find something your child is interested in and work on that. K5 learning has lots of activities that you can print out including answer sheets.

You may need to do these activities together with your child. But you can basically get free printable worksheets everywhere for math, spelling, reading, language arts ect.

I brought my son to Kumon in Fairfax VA . He is 4-year-old and I was thinking maybe Kumon can help him get ready for preschool and that is what they say .

I found out that they don’t teach anything and I, myself need to teach my son and all he needs to do was repeat it all for his teacher for 6 minutes and done .

It was kind a waist of money and my son hates reading now . I told them to cancel before September , they say they are not gonna refund me September’s tuition fee.

If more kids parents made them take classical guitar lessons that alone would greatly improve their academic performance. Also it would improve their self confidence and critical thinking skills.

Perhaps learning centers like Kumon should consider incorporating music lessons in their facilities. Guitar, piano, cello, bass, violin and organ are essential instruments that should be a requirement for all children to learn to play.

Kumon helps with speed, but not really accuracy. They don’t actually teach you math, just train you to do it faster.

I’ve been in Kumon for 3-4 months and now: -I hate studying. -Numbers get mixed in my head.

-I get stressed to “do it fast” and “be accurate too” when I do Kumon homework. -Kumon Student

Honestly Kumon isn’t that bad. Yes they do put you in levels that is kind of low but they Do that because of how u did on ur test.

I admit sometimes they go too low but I think it helps a bit. At least for me. I was learning something before I did in school which helped me do it really well in school. Kumon makes the worksheets harder(at least I think) so that ur school work would be easier.

So it helps out a bit. Sorry to everyone who has bad experiences with Kumon, it sounds terrible.

Kumon is just overpriced worksheets that don't teach you anything.

Yes, so true. I believe it's a scam as well.

I was promised my child would be up to grade level by the end of summer and we are no where close. It's to much for the kids to try and keep up with Lemons repetitive work and school. There is no one on one teaching, they repeat the same work home and at Lemon. They do not want to release you from your contract but say you can by back months not finished for 75.00 per month, per subject.

For the money you spend hire a one on one tutor. Do not spend your money each program is for 13 months @ 2000 plus each
